I could not resist the temptation on my way home to get some yarn for my next crochet project. It was a nice treat after a long day at work.

Yellow and blue
So, this is the first time that I make Lemon cake and mmmmmmm, so good! I followed the recipe from Jane Brocket's book The Gentle Art of Domesticity. The recipe suggests to finish it off with some icing, but somehow I thought that would be a wee sugary for me today, so I left that bit out.
I have also been crocheting and I managed to make this pot holder this weekend. I am really pleased with the result, mainly because I have self taught myself. I cannot make sense of patterns, so I try, give it a go, undo, try again, etc. Once I have made something I can then compare it with photographs, and read the pattern. It is only then that the written pattern makes any sense to me. Ah! What a happy Bank Holiday! Hope you are finding something to make and feel satisfied too.

Trying something new
Inspired by so many beautiful crochet creations out there I have decided to give it a go (wish me luck!). I am using Debbie Bliss cotton yarn and a number 4 hook. This is what I have been able to manage so far. I can imagine myself getting quite addicted!

Home is where the sofa is
We have been living without a sofa for two years. Two years! How could we? Well, we just never got round to it. Doh!
But we went to Ikea a couple of weeks ago and decided to go ahead. Lovely white, which gets dirty very quickly but looks wonderful for a few weeks. The fabric you see at the back was bought with a different purpose in mind, but once at home we saw it went really well with the dotty cushion (which was made months ago with more Ikea fabric), so we put it at the back to make the whole thing more interesting.

And a little bit more
Decisions, decisions
I have been spending much of the winter reading posts of crafty bloggers and admiring their work. But personally I have not made anything for ages. I am now ready to sew again, and this is where I have started. Finally!
My problem is that I bought loads of little bits of fabric and I have been feeling overwhelmed. What can I do with so much choice and variety? Believe me, it was much easier when I didn't have much to choose from.
As usual I have started sewing without much of a plan in my head, and although I have put something pretty together, I honestly don't know how to carry on. Any ideas? I thought of making a quilt, but I am not sure whether to stick to pinky colours or to add some other, like the blue/green ones above. What are your thoughts on this? I would really appreciate some feedback!
